HISTORY

Leather manufactoring has been effected since centuries on this very place. The tannery was mentioned already in a document dated 1450 and it is assumed, that leather has been produced since approximately 1200.

Unfortunately the names of the owners until the late 18th century are not known. However the ancestral line of today´s proprietors can be followed back to Julius Frank (1757-1830), who took it over from a childless family in 1790.

Until the year of 1931 the tannery´s name was Frank, followed later on by the name Kölblinger - by marriage into the business. During this generation the production of leather has been changed for the most part.
Whereas sole leather was the main production until 1957, the change to shoe upper leather was started from this time on - with clear preference for waterproof leather destinated for ski-boots.

At the same time light vegetable leather was being produced. The end of the 70ties brought also the end of waterproof leather production and this period of restructuring was a successful and lucky switch to production of technical leather as sports equipment for horses and dogs.
Due to a big fire in 1984 the tannery was destroyed for the most part. When rebuilding the tannery greatest attention has been paid to the equipment of machines and also keeping a special eye on production of niche-articles.

By doing so the continued existence of our family property has been maintained and customers within the EC and overseas do appreciate our latest products.
